Jay-
I've been going through the NYC subway site and others on the net, and I'm starting to get a good start on this project. I've got a lot of archives to plow through, and am enjoying reading the posts here and on the Yahoo groups I've joined, but if anyone has information they could send me about the 61st Street IRT and LIRR stations (photos, measurements, plans, links to sites, etc.), that would speed up my research.
Thanks for the link to both the aerial view and the library. I had completely forgotten to try the NY Public Library, so that will be next.
What I'm looking for now is photos of the street and sidewalks, with the buildings and businesses along Roosevelt Ave., from about 60th to 62nd Street, and along 61st Street one block north and one south.
Then I have to start trying to calculate measurements of the height of the LIRR tracks above the street and then the height of the mezzanine and IRT tracks above the LIRR.
I've gotten some good tips for building the support structure of the el from the "Modeling the NYC Subway" site and the "NYC Model Transit Assoc." site, among others, so now I've got to start collecting or making drawings and templates, and then set up a production line.
So, if anyone has drawings or plans for building IRT style el structures (or knows good sources), i'd appreciate hearing from them.
