I used the Bowser trucks to create a powered R21 using the Images Replicas kit. That ran about the same cost as what computed for IHP shells -- roughly $225 for a three car set. I also used them for my own set of R27/30 cars, but much lower cost even when considering the cost of the RTV for the molds.

Now for the flip side. The big appeal of the P1K cars was the simple fact that they're RTR. Lately, time has been at a premium and a fleet of LLK cars, while not the best way to go, help build up the fleet at a low cost and very quickly. So, in my case, I traded off scale accuracy for rapid fleet deployment.

BTW -- the Bowser unit is a tight fit in a scale IRT body. My guess is that decisions similar to Athern's were what led to the out of scale cars.
